War is horrible, not for the dead ...but for the ones who survives it.

Bound for World War I, the timid 20 year-old Johnny gets a last night with his girlfriend and heads to Europe into imminent conflict. Mutilated by a fallen bombshell, his limp body is retrieved and brought back to base. Four amputated limbs, defaced, mute, blind and deaf ...and still holding a pulse, his soul is miraculously intact. We follow his downward spiral into the fine line between thin hope and his grim fate.

"It is impossible for a decerebrated individual to experience pain, pleasure, memory, dreams or thoughts of any kind." Based on Dalton Trumbo's 1939 novel and self-directed by the writer, Johnny Got His Gun might be the most horrifying movie of all time. Through darkness, the slow tension chokes the audience, the same way Johnny realize his destiny: his mind is his cell. Resonating with many veterans who all felt his pain ...it left us all shell-shocked.

"Landmine ! has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing..." During the promotion for METALLICA's 1988 And Justice For All LP, the movie was chosen to match their video-single for the song "One". The band's first video clocking at 7 min+, is a dire exposition that shuns dusk on MTV's colorful visuals and generic party-rock shenanigans. Masterpiece movie mixed with a masterpiece song.
